Developing The Whole Human with Phylicia Jones

Phylicia Jones on Developing The Whole Human

Joining me this week is the Senior Director of People Development at PagerDuty, Phylicia Jones.

I’ve known PJ for almost four years, and we’ve been working together on various exciting projects. I’ve seen her role evolve from being about Talent Development to being about People Development. Now that can sound like a superficial change – but if you listen attentively, you’ll realize how important that shift really is. What PJ brings to the table as a learning professional is a deep understanding of the potential of others, and an incredible passion for the development of that potential. She has incredibly insightful and interesting ideas around releasing that potential. The way she’s applied her unique skills at PagerDuty has been visibly effective.

In this conversation, we break down and give some really practical examples of how a lot of these ideas have taken shape among many others. Some of the things you’ll learn from this conversation include:

  • How leadership is contagious.
  • How important it is to anchor learning and cultural values.
  • What roles and responsibilities leadership plays in supporting learning within teams.
  • How PJ uses team agreements and learning agreements to manage expectations, and create the space for people to actually learn.
  • The important role role writing can play in getting leadership buy in.
  • Some of the power-skills that PagerDuty is focused on as a company.

There is so much to learn from this episode, I would definitely recommend grabbing a pen and paper if you can. In every interaction I’ve had with Phylicia, I learned incredibly valuable takeaways.

So please sit back and enjoy my episode with Phylicia Jones.
